Mummy Mafia

So the 3 year old started Ballet today. (She had a great time by the way but that's not the point of this post.)

Some big sister's arrived and a friend next to me asked what school they were at. I told her and found myself commenting; "Probably part of the Mummy Mafia."

This particular school has a group of mothers that will sit outside the school gates and preform character assassinations of any parent they don't approve of. Women who 'don't fit the mould.'

Wrong clothes, wrong hair, wrong car, wrong kids...... They'll chew you up and spit you out.

Just standing next to their expensive SUV's ripping apart their fellow mothers as they try to smile and forget that these women are bitching about them as they walk away.

Sound like High School Bitch Bullshit to you?

Me too!

I honestly can't believe that this is going on with mothers in my community!

My 6 year old doesn't go to this school. And to be honest this is why! And I'm not the only one. I know a few families who won't send their kids to that school because they don't want to put up with the shit. However, I do know mothers from this school who are LOVELY!

I'd like it noted that I was nice to these ladies, I smiled, said hi, told them their girls were gorgeous! And they were kinda nice to me. But they made it clear that a conversation was not to be had.

Does this sound familiar?
Anything like this happen in your community?

Modern Cloth- The Revolutuion!

Well ladies and Gentlemen I'm going to start off with a selfish blog.

Hi, My name is Kira and I'm a modern cloth Nappy addict!
My beautiful friend Tara and I were pregnant together second time round and she introduced me to the world of cloth. And I've only turned back on the occasional camping trip and mental break down. And as a result I've become the go to girl. Everyone I know having a baby asks to for recommendations. So I shall blog it and only have to write it once :-)

Now, I want to make it clear That you want to use disposables? Great! I don't make it a habit of pressuring anyone into a parenting style they don't like. I'm pro sposies to a degree, I'm all for doing what works for you.

Anyway, on to business.

There are 3 kinds of MCN, Fitteds, Pockets and All in ones.

Fitteds are not water proof and need a cover over the top. They are a great stash nappy. I don't use mine often but they're great for a wet week. However other love them! Some brands you'll be looking at are; mandy macs, itti bitti bo's, and baby beehinds.

Then you have pockets. Made out of a water proof layer on the outside and a stay dry on the inside, you then put an absorbent insert inside. The pockets are great coz they dry quickly as your take them apart. Pockets of mention include; Magic alls, designerbums,

And then there's all in ones (and twos). Name says it all really. Acts pretty much like a sposie but you wash it. I would recomend itii bitti delish, bubblebubs and babybehinds.

There's some basics guys. I'll come back later with some info on one size fits all's. and washing info.Image from we <3>

And so it begins....

I'm Kira! And if there is one thing in this world that grates my last nerve it's mothers! Mothers judging other mothers! Because this leads to Mothers questioning! Questioning themselves, Questioning their partners, and even Questioning their children!

"Should I be doing that with her?"

"Am I doing the right thing by him?"

"Shouldn't She be doing this more?"

"What can't I just get this RIGHT?"

"Why am I such A BAD MOTHER?"

I know I've felt like that! Over and Over again and for a really long time!

Did you know that we, as the new generation of parents spend more time with their children on average than any other generation of parents in History?? A little weird considering we work and therefore have less time to spend with them. And yet we (on average) Feel guilty! Guilt that we're not taking them to enough after school activities, Guilt we don't read to them enough, Guilt that they missed swimming lessons 2 weeks in a row! Am I the only one who's sick to death of it all?

For a while now I've wanted to write a book. A book for mothers who are so overcome by the pressures that others put on them they could explode. For the mums out there who convince themselves that they arn't doing right by their children because they don't vacuum twice a day.

And I want to call it; "Chill out your fine!"

Because Kids are resilient. They are capable and resourceful! And they don't care what the house looks like, or what you drag them to ever after noon! And if you love them, (Which I know you do ;-) ) They will turn out beautiful, unscathed human beings.

So Welcome to Chill out! Your Fine! I'll be writing about everything from baby food to choosing schools, and hopefully answering any questions that you may have for me along the way.

I look forward to working with you :-)
